For the exhibition NeuGold, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the German purity law, we designed a modern interpretation of a beer jug – formerly a showpiece in many German households. Foam consists of bubbles, which are round when isolated. But inside beer foam they take on polyhedral shapes, due to surface tension. If all bubbles had the same size, they could be stacked like balls, creating a so-called rhombic dodecahedron. Our 3D-printed jug consists of a multitude of these shapes.
